Idioms
An idiom is a fixed phrase whose meaning tells a different idea from the meaning of each word that are included in the phrase.
For example:
It’s a piece of cake! The phrase does not mean that a cake was cut into pieces. The
phrase means that an action is too easy to be done.
“To ride a bike is a piece of cake, Come on, you can do it!”
Idioms are must of the time informal, but they can be slightly formal. Many idioms are
used in spoken English, but they also appear in newspapers, magazines, books and
even in scholar writing.
